A Vogue inspired manicure.
I’m back, and a year older! 😉 January has been quite the hectic month for me — New Years, then going to Norway to help my boyfriend get set up as a Doctor over there, and then returning for my birthday celebrations. 🙂 It’s been fun so far, but it has meant that blogging was difficult!
A friend of mine, Josefine, wrote on Nearly Nailed It!’s Facebook Page asking if I could teach her how to recreate these beauties, which she had seen on Vogue:
Now, it just so happened that I happened to get an awesome birthday present from another friend of mine, Anne, which matched the metallic shade in this post absolutely perfectly! It was meant to be, dear readers.
Due to the high contrast in this photo, it’s a bit hard to tell what color aside the metallic that was used for the base. I experimented with a nude pink, but you could go for a more opaque color, or even white.
What You’ll Need:
- I used Essence Color & Go in 104 Sweet as Candy and Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in 677 Shoot the Moon, along with some nail striping tape.
- You can also use regular scotch tape if you’d like, it also works just fine. Do put the tape on your skin first, to make sure it’s not super sticky before applying to your nails. You don’t want it to lift off your polish! Whatever you’re working with: just remember to cut all your pieces beforehand, so you don’t have to fumble around with wet nails.
Starting out with Sweet as Candy, I applied two coats and waited for them to get touch dry.
If you have any products or drops which help this process, go ahead and use those, but remember to wash your hands before attempting to use tape, as it wont stick. I forgot this time, and it was a pain to keep pushing my tape down over and over! >_<
The next step is to put some tape on your nail to leave your nude color peeking out. Looking at the picture again, I can see that she taped off her nails around 1/3 of the way down, whereas I did mine more like 1/4 down. You can choose which you prefer. 🙂
Tape off your nails, and remember to pre-cut all the pieces you will need. If any bits pop up use a cuticle stick to smooth them down on your nails so that no nail polish seeps under the gaps!
I used two coats of Shoot the Moon, to reach this opacity. Shoot the Moon is a kind of gold pewter colored foil formula — gorgeous! Remember to peel off the tape before your color dries too much!
There you have it, a finished nude and metallic manicure:
What do you think? Is this a look you’d try? What colors would you use?
