A feathered manicure, for a different, softer, New Year’s look!
Wow, 2013 is nearly over and 2014 is peeking round the corner! I can’t wait! A lot of great things happened in 2013 (including the birth of this blog!) but it’s also been a pretty unlucky year for me job-wize — so I say, out with the old, in with the new!
Today’s manicure is Ciaté’s Feathered Manicure in Ruffle My Feathers — you get a lovely box with a polish, a quick dry top coat, some feathers, some nail file-cube thingies, and some little scissors. The set comes with instructions, but Ciaté’s website has a video, too!
The polish that comes with the set is Ciaté’s Chincilla, a sort of periwinkle grey. It’s a bit patchy in it’s application, but after the second coat it evens out.
Following the instructions, choose a feather you want to apply to your nail(s). Apply a layer of top coat to your nail and place the feather on to your nail, pressing the feather down.
Trim a bit of the feather off, leaving some bits hanging near your nail — you’ll file those off later. Then paint a layer of top coat starting at the end of your nail, and down towards your cuticles, so as to follow the direction of the feathers.
Once your nails are dry, file off the remaining bits of feather, and use the top coat to seal off your tips.
Tips and Tricks:
- Add a glitter topper for a different effect!
- Remember to follow the instructions about the direction in which you should paint your top coat on. Photographed above is my right hand, where I painted the top coat in the ‘right’ direction (top down). Below is what happens when you don’t do this. The feather sepearates:
It still looks ok, but you can see how the feathers have bunched together.
Well, I hope you all have an absolutely fabulous new year! I hope 2014 brings you luck, and all you desire! 🙂
I’m going to Norway for the first few days of 2014, with my boyfriend. I don’t think I’ll have internet or access to a computer — so I’ll catch you on the flip side of that! 🙂
